About

Umut Ozkan is a Turkish alevi musician from Turkish capital Ankara but his family originates from Haci bektas ,northern cappadociathe town which get its name from the Famous founder of the Bektasi sect and the philosopher Haci Bektasi-Veli.

As his family are from haci bektas he was encouraged from a early age to take part in traditional alevi music.

Umut has performed as a zakir in many Cem ceremony he is very capable in Semah music (the semah performed during the service (cem) as required by Alevi and Bektaşi belief is a means of reaching God through mystical and aesthetic movements executed in harmony with the rhythm of music and song accompanied by a saz (Turkish stringed instrument) played by the zakir who conducts the service).

Umut studiet at high school in Ankara Anatolian School of fine Arts. He also attended the Gazi University in Ankara completing his studies and becoming a music teacher.

In his professional life he has been collaborating with Erdal Erzincan,Erdal Tugcular some of the projects he has been involved are Concerts organised by the Turkish ministry of Culture and TRT the state Tv and radio Broadcaster he has worked on many other artist as a session musician and also worked for many years as theatre musicians and also as a actor and has been the lead character in some play.

He moved to the uk in July 2019 to teach lessons for the Turkish traditional music instruments the Baglama and its side instruments and musical notes and method.
